The volunteer program began in November 1999. The Catholic Charities Child Care Division received a grant for Americorps VISTA full time volunteers to create the volunteer program.
Almost three years later, we have over 35 volunteers, including mentors and classroom aids in three of our child care centers. We have developed a screening process for hiring volunteers, generated thousands of dollars in in-kind donations, successfully recruited businesses to sponsor entire classrooms for a one year commitment, created a bi-monthly volunteer newsletter as well as other accomplishments.
